Nat Cool, naturally "cool and funky", is an innovative concept created by Niepoort, a movement of unity between several producers with the aim of creating light and easy to drink wines. Primata was born from a "push" by Dirk Niepoort to Luís Pedro for him to make his own wine in 2016.
Vineyards at an altitude of 600 meters in the Douro Valley in the Tabuaço region give rise to this wine, which features the lightness of the high areas and the transition soils, and the structure of the Douro varieties combined with the Natcool factor - Less is More - little intervention, either in the vineyard or in the cellar. A minimalist winemaking concept where the raw material reigns!
Primata Natcool 2019 grapes come from 50% of a Touriga Nacional vineyard and 50% from old vines, all from the Tabuaço region in Cima Corgo. Spontaneous fermentation in a wine press with the whole bunch and a light step on foot, in order to extract some juice but not damage the grape skin. After fermentation / maceration in a mill, the grapes are pressed and passed to a stainless steel vat where they undergo malolactic fermentation and age for 6 months - where natural stabilization takes place during winter.
