Colheitas are Tawny Ports of a single year, aged in cask for a minimum period of seven years before being bottled. The Colheita is delicious at the end of the meal to accompany desserts and nuts or as an aperitif to accompany, for example, "foie gras".
VINIFICATION 2008 was an exceptional year in the Douro region. The rain in the spring and early summer, which allowed the soils to maintain a good water level until the harvests, and the cooler conditions throughout the growing season, associated with the dry and relatively cool months of July and August, led to a late harvest. Low productivity, mainly due to rain during flowering, was also an important factor in obtaining quality grapes, with great acidity, freshness and balanced sugar levels - perfect for the Niepoort style.
The grapes were trodden in 100% stalked wine presses and fortified in our Port Winemaking Center, in Vale de Mendiz, having aged in our cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, in 550-liter old barrels.
TEST RESULTS A brick-red color with light orange nuances leads to a refined, slightly smoky aroma, with hints of nuts. In the mouth, it is fresh with a magnificent acidity and touches of dried apricots and candied fruit, creating a long aftertaste dominated by soft alcohol.
