Portuguese wines were once again on the rise in the 28th edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB), earning 335 medals, about a third of the 1,071 national wines registered for the tasting. The prizes of the most recent competition will be given to Portuguese producers during the Essência do Vinho – Summer Edition, which starts today at the Palácio de Cristal gardens, in Porto.
Medals were awarded to wines from 40 different countries. France (672 medals), followed by Spain (507 medals), Italy (389 medals) and Portugal (335 medals) in the lead, with the largest number of inscribed wines and prizes. For nine days, groups of 90 to 100 people, totaling more than 300 international judges, took turns tasting the wines in competition. 10,000 wines from 46 producing countries participated in this year's Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which took place in Luxembourg (see article in the next issue of Revista de Vinhos).
Of the prizes obtained by Portuguese wines, nine Grandes de Ouro Medals stand out, awarded to wines from four producing regions (Alentejo, Lisbon, Dão and Tejo), as well as 113 Gold Medals.
In addition to the silver, gold and grand gold medals, the competition also awarded "breakthrough" prizes to the wines with the highest scores in each category. For Portugal, a red wine Regional Alentejo from the 2018 harvest stands out. The next edition of the CMB will take place in Yinchuan (Ningxia), China. But, first, the prizes of the most recent competition will be given to Portuguese producers during the course of the Essência do Vinho – Summer Edition, which starts today at the Palácio de Cristal gardens, in Porto.
